Commonwealth Aquatics Training and Staff Development, LLC is proud to offer American Red Cross Aquatic courses, the leader in water safety training since 1914. All courses are taught by Red Cross certified Instructors. Participants will receive certification upon successful completion of the course. Course fee includes all in class books and materials. In addition to the course offerings on this page we can also provide training at your facility either for your staff or as a community course

 

Certificates

All courses taught this season have been processed. If you have not received an email with your certificate go to the site below and use the name/date method to search, if still not found try the email search method. If even after using both of these methods you still can not find your certificate then send us an email from the contact us page. Their will be a $25.00 fee if the certificate is found on the search page.

How Do I Register

To register for any of our courses, click on the course name, which will bring you to our contact us form. Fill out the form with the students information. The course id is the number following the name of the class begining with letters then 4 numbers in parantheses. By filling out this information a space in the class will be reserved for you, should your plans change, please be courteous and cancel your registration, so that another person can have the spot. Payment is not required in advance, information will be provided after submission of the form. However should you wish to Pre-Pay:

CANCELLATION/REFUNDS

Class registration may be cancelled up to 48 hours before the class starts at no cost. After that point an amount equal to one half of the cost of the class will be nonrefundable.

Should a participant not complete the precourse session a refund will be issued minus $50.00.

No refund or credits will be issued for failing to show up for all scheduled class sessions, or for unsuccesfully completing the course requirements.

Makeup sessions can be arranged on an individual basis.

CERTIFICATION

Certification is provided to all successful students upon course completion by email from the American Red Cross. Learner records are maintained by the Red Cross by email, therefore each student will need to provide their own email address.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

Prerequisites: Minimum age: 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.

SHALLOW WATER LIFEGUARD

The purpose of the Shallow Water Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level shallow water lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 5-feet deep and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. This program offers a choice of Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience.

Prequisites: Be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course. Swim 100 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.  Complete a timed event within 50 seconds:  Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Submerge to a depth of 4 to 5 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and walk or swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object at the surface of the water. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

LIFEGUARD TRAINING INSTRUCTOR

Trains lifeguarding instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Blended Learning, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. Note: To teach Waterfront Skills, Lifeguarding instructors must possess a basic-level Waterfront Skills certificate Prerequisites: Minimum age: 17 years, Possess a current Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, An equivalent certificate from another organization, Complete the Online Session for the Lifeguarding Instructor course and complete the precourse session

Lifeguard Management

This course helps prepare current lifeguards interested in taking the next step in lifeguarding. Teaches skills needed to become an effective head lifeguard or facility manager.

Water Safety Instructor

This course trains Water Safety Instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants progress. The courses and presentations include Parent and Child Aquatics Levels 1 and 2, Preschool Aquatics Levels 1 - 3, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1 - 6, three adult courses as well as the Basic Water Rescue and Personal WaterSafety courses and more. To enroll, instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course and successfully complete the precourse session which includes demonstration of swimming skill at Learn-to-Swim Level 4.

Blended Learning Offerings

A large number of American Red Cross courses today include an online component. The link for the online component will be sent along with the registration confirmation. The online portion must be completed prior to the first in person session. For Instructor level courses, their is a course specific registration link. Participants will be asked to pay a fee to the Red Cross upon registering for the course with them. For basic level courses this fee is part of the course fee and is payable to the instructor the first class session.


Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification Course

The AFO, NRPA's Aquatic Facility Operator certification course, is a training program designed to meet the needs of those working in public, semi-public, and municipal pool or waterpark facilities. The AFO program offers a unique discussion of risk management, not usually directed towards operations personnel. The course is designed to provide information and training for both supervisory and operations personnel.
